It’s Record Store Day! Here’s the flyer I designed for my neighborhood shop, Harvest Records.

I’ve recently been working with Laura Huff, aka the Carolina Epicurean, on logos for Small Plate Crawls in both my old hometown of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and my current hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. And here they are!

Secret Ingredient

Tiziana and I are pretty obsessed with the TV show Chopped. Here’s a comic I drew about it, while I should’ve been working on something else. Click to enlarge.

Warm The Bell, Wayne Robbins & The Hellsayers and The White Cascade

August 25, 2011

This weekend at the Lexington Avenue Brewery, you can catch three brothers, in three different bands. I was very excited for the opportunity to design and print these posters for the show. Warm The Bell is an excellent band formed with former members of Nevada, a band I always enjoyed. And Wayne Robbins & The Hellsayers are the very definition of a classic Asheville band.

The posters are a two color print, and will be for sale at the show. For a closer look at the print, click to enlarge.

LAAFF flyers

August 22, 2011

In a town that is filled to the brim with festivals, the Lexington Avenue Arts & Fun Festival is, in my opinion, the festival that has the most in common with the host city of Asheville. There’s lots of reasons. Everything, from the music to the food, is made and sold by locals. A large portion of the attendees show up in costume, and a lot of the costumes are amazing. And there are insane events, usually involving bicycles. So much fun, you guys.

I’m involved this year in two ways. I had the honor of providing an illustration for one of the three posters for this year’s event, which you can see above. My band, Albatross Party, will also be playing a set on Sunday afternoon at 5:30. So come by, rock out, and say hi!

Our new store

August 8, 2011

We’re in the process of putting together a Big Cartel store, where you can buy our prints. Check it out!

The available prints will be rotated each month.

Posters!

August 1, 2011

Last weekend, Tiziana and I cleaned our basement, from top to bottom. We threw out a lot of stuff. A LOT. But, we also found some things. Things we thought were lost long ago.

One of those things was the charger for my camera’s battery. This makes me very, very happy. I’m no longer relying on my Droid as my main camera, which is awesome, because the camera on my Droid is a hunk of garbage.

I’ve decided to celebrate by updating the Prints section of this website. Now, you can check out some of the best screen printed posters that I’ve churned out over the past few years, all on one handy page.

So, enough blabbering. Check it out!

Incoming… Fanaticon 2011

May 16, 2011

Around this time last year, we were frantically writing, drawing, printing, folding and stapling in preparation for our first comic convention appearance, at Fanaticon, in our beautiful hometown of Asheville, North Carolina. For us, and for almost everyone we spoke with, last year’s inaugural Fanaticon was a rousing success. It was a very heartening experience, to decide to make comics and art prints, commit to exhibiting them at a brand new convention, with no guarantee of attention or attendance, and to have it go unimaginably well. It was great. It made us brave. It made us turn our mini-comic into a weekly webcomic. But, most importantly, it made us believe in ourselves, as creators. And we can’t wait to do it again, for a second year.

We’ll be at the same table (Table 48), immediately visible as soon as you enter Artist’s Alley, on the second level. We’ll be selling a wide variety of comics and art. There will be two volumes of our ongoing comic, Hair and Therapy. There will be our screen printed Comic Book Zodiac poster series, which you might remember from last year. There will also be t-shirts for sale. They’ll look a little something like this (but without the words). And we will have a brand new art print, based on a classic superhero/villain story, that we will debut at the convention. I’d tell you more, but it’s a surprise!

So, if you’re in the Asheville area, come to the show, and say hi! We promise a good time, even if you’re not a huge comics fan. There’s going to be live music (such as our friends The Mad Tea Party), tons of people running around in elaborate costumes, and comics, comics, comics!

While you’re at Fanaticon, we’d like to recommend a few stops along your route. Comic Envy, our favorite comic shop in the world, will be right by the front door this year, so make sure to stop by, and tell Darrin we said hello.  Our friends Henry Eudy, Tom Davidson and Eraklis Petmezas are driving up from Charlotte, on our recommendation (at least partially), and they’re all great cartoonists and excellent guys, so buy some of their comics, and help make it worth their while.

We hope to see you there. Cheers!

The Cheeksters, May 7th

April 14, 2011

Just finished printing this poster for the May 7th Cheeksters/Albatross Party show at The Lexington Avenue Brewery.
