The Comic Book Zodiac, Part Two

Here are two more additions to our upcoming series of screen prints that we are affectionately calling The Comic Book Zodiac. For more information on the series, please check out our original post. And now, on to the art!

While there are lots of potential options for this zodiac sign, and even a superhero with the name Taurus, we decided to go to the personality traits that fall under the Taurus zodiac sign for inspiration. Here’s a brief synopsis of what we found…

Patient and reliable , warmhearted and loving
, persistent and determined,
placid and security loving. On the dark side….

jealous and possessive
, resentful and inflexible
, self-indulgent and greedy.

This description kind of just screamed Ben Grimm to us. That, and his imposing physical characteristics made him our Bull. He was a ton of fun to draw, if a bit time consuming. Which is why there are only two art specimens this week.

For those of you who have read the late 90’s Vertigo series The Invisibles, you’re probably aware of why we chose King Mob as our Scorpio avatar. If you haven’t read it, then I think that you should (if you are of age).

For the people we’ve consulted about this project, this was a controversial choice, given the fact that most of the characters we’re doing are more iconic, more instantly recognizable. But ultimately, I chose to use King Mob for personal reasons. The Invisibles is a very important book to me. I grew up on comics, and kind of lost interest in them during the “Spider-Clone” era early 90’s. The Invisibles brought me back into comics (in trade paperback form, a couple of years after the original run). It’s easily one of my favorite things that I’ve ever read, and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pay a small tribute.

Thanks for checking out our little art project, and if you like what you’ve seen, be sure to come back later this week. We’ll have more art for you to check out, and maybe, just maybe, some pictures of the first printed poster!
